More Revelation: The Dragon Ronin Reborn Part II

The Dragon Scale Shoulder Guard

Though I've made two sets of these, I ended up using just one set for the right shoulder, because I decided to mount the Dragon Head on the left shoulder. I've detailed the lower guard with scales, and will be detailing the upper one with tribal flames.

MG Turn X Gundam ver MatX WIP Part VII

The Left lower arm. I initially planned to used the original armor by "simply" modifying it and building over it, but I will have to contend with the part's original shape. I decided later on to build the conversion part from scratch.

Like how I did most of the modifications so far I layered preshaped plaplates/HIPS together.

Then sculpted like crazy to achieve this.

Like my previous sculpting, I used a blunt and sharp knife to whittle the part down to its base shape, used the edge of a small steel ruler to shave it down further and achieve symmetry and used a file to smooth it it out. In some cases when the cement hasn't fully cured (like this one, since I was in hurry to shape the part after deciding to add another layer of HIPS) even careful carving can result in layers peeling off.

The thin plaplate you see is the fix for that. I saturate the affected area with cement, file down, resaturate it, file it down again, then cement small shaped pieces of plate with a generous amount, enough to melt the fixes into each other. At this point, I'll let it fully cure before filing it down.

"Sculpting" Plaplates

Plaplates. Those venerable sheets of plastic that we all use, have used or will use, here, now and again. Its versatility is bound only by the imagination of creator who wields the knife brave enough to cut it, and maybe a piece of flesh every now and then. People have cut it into pieces and recreated scale architectures, or have peppered armor with it till its almost bullet proof, repaired parts and and even built armor, made sandwiches good enough to eat (if one is hungry enough) with it, and whathaveyous from days on end.

My favorite part of a build is modifying or even repair work, so much I am starting to believe I break things just to get a chance to fix them, and with all these, the mighty yet humble plaplate reign supreme.

But today, I tackled something a bit different. Instead of deliberately finding things to fix, I made something instead. Like I mentioned a few posts before, I have redesigned the Sinanju's emblem to make it some of my own and have somewhat become overly ambitious. The Angelus emblem is more than a challenge to make, not because it's difficult to cut plaplates, but, difficult to cut in SMALL curved details.

I printed the design of the Angelus Emblem to scale, on paper, and as soon as I've seen the printed version, I knew I was in trouble. This one in particular is the chest emblem of the Angelus, so it's smaller and more tedious to work on.
